Position Details:

NEA is accepting applications for individuals interested in participating in the NEA Internship Program, Center for Communications, Digital Team, for the Winter Spring 2023 session, which will begin on January 23, 2023 and will end on May 26, 2023. The internships range from six weeks to a full semester. Interns will receive a stipend of $20 per hour and may intern up to a maximum of twenty (20) hours a week.

The NEA Internship Program provides interns with training, learning opportunities, educational activities and exposure to a variety of rich and substantive programmatic experiences that support quality public education. These experiences may include conducting research; data analysis; writing, editing, using Internet applications and social media; participating in and assisting with partnership events, meetings and policy forums; visits to Capitol Hill; and other appropriate program-related activities.

NEA Internships: Position Summary

The NEA partners with institutions of higher education, intern programs and other organizations to identify interns - generally juniors, seniors, recent college graduates (up to 18 months) or graduate students - who are interested in public education policy and education issues. Students pursuing degrees in Education, Political Science, Government, Human Resources, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Business, Finance, Economics, Management, Communications, Computer Science, Journalism, Mass Media, Graphic Design, Digital Communications and other disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Position Emphasis: This position supports NEA's strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by participating in internship opportunities and assignments in the Center for Communications, Digital Intern Team of the National Education Association. This internship may be on-site at NEA Headquarters and/or hybrid.

Digital Team Intern Assignments:

The Digital Team intern will work alongside Senior Digital Strategists to create and execute on multi-channel online communications strategies, with a specific focus on educational policy. This will involve collaborating with the digital team and other partners within NEA to engage with members and the public in the digital space, through owned online media such as web, email, SMS, and social media content. The intern will provide support on a variety of projects in pursuit of NEA's broader organizational priorities.

Expected skills and opportunities for development that the intern may obtain from this educational experience:

  • Learn about and help implement slating for digital content, including social media, SMS, web, and email communications.
  • Brainstorming ideas for digital content across NEA's owned online platforms.
  • Experience executing digital communications campaigns on multiple channels
  • Assist with providing quality assurance and feedback
  • Gather data, compile analytics, and help provide key insights on digital communications and promotion.
  • Support the digital team's work to build cross-platform online campaigns to disseminate resources, build the brand of NEA and its officers, and communicate with members and the public on pressing education issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
