Opportunity at a Glance

This newly created position develops and participates in various tax initiatives and projects. This position is responsible for various non income taxes, tax reporting and documentation efforts, and ad hoc internal consulting. This position is involved with technology and process improvement initiatives. Overall, this is a sole-contributor role with occasional teaming with other tax department members on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage transaction tax (sales/use, VAT/GST) compliance, audits, tax exemptions, and reconcile account balances.
  • Manage the annual research and development credit project.
  • Manage IRS income and other federal tax audits and notices.
  • Participates in the development, design and implementation of tax systems and technology as well as a global tax calendar.
  • Oversees the filing of annual reports and works closely with the legal department to ensure that we provide updated and accurate information pertaining to officers and directors.
  • Oversees the filing of business licenses for various campus and office locations and works closely with the payroll department and campus leaders to ensure compliance.
  • Preparation of gross receipt tax returns and payments.
  • Manage tax compliance for tax exempt organizations.
  • Internal consulting related to student finance, payroll tax, unclaimed property and other ad hoc advice.
  • Manage IRS information reporting.
  • Manage BEPS requirements and documentation.
  • Participates in meetings, serves on committees and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains memberships in tax professional groups in order to increase knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business or Accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
  • 5+ years related experience in a corporate income tax environmentpreferred
  • Self-starter and resourceful attitude with minimal instruction needed to get things done - ability to take this newly created role and run with it.
  • Have expertise in transaction tax including GST/VAT, multi-state sales & use tax, reporting, and filings.
  • Have the ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple assignments.
  • Have the ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Have excellent communication, analytical and research skills and willing to assist with different assignments among various tax workstreams.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. Working knowledge of Vertex and/or Avalara software is a plus.
Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $68637.22 and $124230.14. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
